Special Meeting

August 3, 2025 | 12:00 am - 12:00 am

We’re having a Special Meeting of the congregation on Sunday August 3 at 10am to discuss two large maintenance/improvement projects that the Property Committee has been working on, and to vote on the first one. On the agenda will be 1) repaving the parking lot around the church (leaving the west lot as is), using existing available funds in the Building and Grounds Fund. 2) Discussing a plan for the lower level of the church, to include updates in the old section and finishing the new section.

Here’s a few details regarding the parking lot:
+Most of the blacktop that is cracked and rutted was paved in 1990.
+The cracks and ruts worsen in winter, and we are concerned for the safety of people walking in the parking lot.
+The Property Team obtained 3 bids for this work, ranging from approximately $63,000-$95,000. The Property Committee and Council recommend proceeding with the $63,000 bid with 10% contingency added to it for a total commitment of $69,000. Funds available in the Building and Grounds Fund can pay for this project (and of course, special offerings are appreciated!) For the sake of getting this project executed in a timely fashion, we will ask for your approval during the Special Meeting.

Here are some of the basics on lower level maintenance and improvements:
+The plan for the ‘old’ (1952 portion) includes new flooring (with existing asbestos tiles abated properly), new ceiling, new lighting, and the 1952 women’s room would be converted into an ADA compliant family/all-gender restroom.
+The ‘new’ area (2002 portion) was built unfinished, with temporary lighting. We have since added a full kitchen, installed flooring, and added a new women’s restroom. The plan is to finish the ceiling, and add new lighting, as well as a few related improvements. A recommended scope and associated quote have been prepared and received by the Property Team. This work would require approximately $77,000 in funding including 10% contingency. We’ll ask for your feedback, and seek final approval at a separate Special Meeting in the near future.

We thank the Property Team for all of their legwork on getting these two projects before us! And we thank you for participating in the special meeting, if you are able.
